DUSTOFF
A YOUNG MAN'S GUIDE TO THE SURREALITY OF WAR

The Army,  even in the best of times,  is a parallel universe with a
language, culture and mindset of its own.

War,  particularly insurgent war,  is not the best of times.   Life
can get very strange,  very quickly.   Our friends and lovers,  our sons
and daughters,  step through the looking glass to Malice in Wonderland.

Vietnam,  the setting for "Dustoff",  was our first experience with insurgent war.   The experience continues today in Iraq.

"Dustoff" is about the best of any generation,  the helicopter crews and
evacuation hospital nurses who saved hundreds of lives and in the process
lost themselves.

The novel is funny and sad, heroic and heartbreaking.

It is about what happens to our bravest children.
